Share the Joy of Reading with RSVP

Guest story by Theresa Strong, RSVP Manager, Community Renewal Team

Volunteerism is a cornerstone of AARP’s service to Connecticut communities of all ages and we at the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) know that the AARP community is a great place to showcase volunteer opportunities in Greater Hartford  - opportunities that make our communities more livable for everyone.

We are now seeking volunteers age 55+ to serve in our signature program, READs, for the 2018-19 school year.

The RSVP READs Program is operated as a school-based program where volunteers are partnered with students in local elementary schools, providing reading guidance for 1-hour per week from October through May of the school year. This coming school year (2018-2019), the RSVP READs Program will be operating in six (6) local communities;  Berlin, New Britain, Manchester, Portland, Vernon, and Wethersfield.

You simply tell us what weekdays you’re available for 1-hour and which district you are willing to serve in, successfully complete a simple vetting process and we place you accordingly.  You can also choose to serve as a substitute only, meaning you’re merely on an email/call list if someone is unable to make their 1-hour weekly commitment.

As a READs RSVP Volunteer, we can promise you that you will truly make a difference in the lives of the students you touch.

For more information, please contact Theresa Strong, RSVP Manager at strongt@crtct.org  or (860) 519-3484.
