AARP DC is observing National Family Caregivers Month by reaching out to help people caring for vulnerable loved ones in the nation’s capital.
The state office is distributing copies of “Prepare to Care,” a guide that can help caregivers learn about available resources and make a plan that includes taking time to nurture themselves. In addition, people receiving care or who are friends of a caregiver can express appreciation through the Thanks Project at thanksproject.org.
In 2009, about 68,000 caregivers provided about $760 million worth of unpaid services to family members in the District.
