The first of several AARP Arkansas Regional Volunteer Briefings planned for this year will be held Friday, March 1, in Conway.

This briefing, scheduled for 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., will be at the Conway Public Library, located at 1900 Tyler St. in Conway. To RSVP for the Conway briefing, please call 501-217-1628 or email araarp@aarp.org

The briefings, designed to give volunteers a chance to meet with each other and staff from the state office, were announced earlier this year.

Every volunteer is welcome at these briefings, including Driver Safety, Tax-Aide, and Arkansas Retired Teachers Association (ARTA) Unit and AARP Chapter Members. Lunch is always included, because nothing works up an appetite quite as effectively as volunteering for AARP. Each briefing covers a range of topics and interests.

During the most recent briefing, in December 2012, we discussed major trends in volunteerism, which will continue to be a theme at 2013 briefings. The inspiration for our discussions is taken from an influential, but easy-to-read book titled The New Breed: Understanding and Equipping the 21st Century Volunteer, by Jonathan and Thomas McKee (Group, 2012).

Additional Regional Volunteer Briefings are scheduled as follows, with the same RSVP details noted above (call 501-217-1628 or email araarp@aarp.org ) :

Little Rock Tuesday, March 19, 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m, AARP Arkansas State Office, 1701 Centerview Drive (Redding Building) Suite 205.

Fayetteville: Tuesday, March 26, 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Golden Corral restaurant, 4507 N. College Ave.

Colt: Wednesday, March 27, 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., Mike's Family Restaurant, 49 Old Military Rd West.
