Grandparents and other family members care for children daily.

A Grandfamily/Kinship Care Day will be held for those who are raising children other than their own on Thursday, October 15, 2015 from 8:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. The St. James Outreach Center, 418 E. Broadway in Hayti is the site of the free event that is open to the public. The conference will feature informative sessions, exhibits, door prizes, and a complimentary lunch.

“Raising a grandchild, niece, or nephew can be rewarding, but also challenging,” said Mary Engram, University of Missouri Extension Human Development specialist. “This conference is for grandparents and other caregivers raising children. This will be their day to relax, enjoy the fellowship, and learn about community resources.”

Conference topics include:
• Social Media Awareness
• Behaviors of Abused and Neglected Children
• Legal Issues for Grandparents and Guardians
• A Grandfamily Perspective/Current Legislation

Register by contacting the University of Missouri Extension, 111 E. Third St., Caruthersville, MO or by calling 573.333.0258.

The conference is made possible by the following partners: Aging Matters, AARP, Family Counseling Center, Families Support Project-PIN, OAKS Nutrition Center, Parentlink, Pemiscot County health Center, Project Reach, RSVP, St. James Outreach, and University of Missouri Extension
