AARP encourages Missourians on fixed incomes to apply for Utilicare, which helps thousands of households pay for utility bills during cold winter weather. Energy demand was 27 percent higher than average nationwide last winter, according to the National Climatic Data Center.
“This program offers peace of mind for people who otherwise might have to choose between staying warm or buying medicines and groceries,” said Craig Eichelman, AARP state director.
Missourians may qualify for Utilicare if their annual income does not exceed $15,755 for an individual or $21,236 for a couple. To apply, call the Missouri Division of Social Services at 573-751-3221.
