In the legislative session that begins Jan. 8, AARP Idaho is urging state lawmakers to pass the Idaho Family Caregiver Act, which would help caregivers confidently perform medical or nursing tasks when a loved one comes home from a hospital stay. The bill would let every hospital patient designate a family caregiver and would require hospitals to make reasonable efforts to show those caregivers how to perform follow-up care.

November marks National Family Caregivers Month, a time to recognize the 42 million Americans, 200,000 in Idaho, who help care for aging parents, spouses and other loved ones so they can remain at home – as opposed to costly institutions. In the Gem State alone, family caregivers provide unpaid care valued at a staggering $2 billion annually.

AARP Idaho and U.S. Postal Inspection Service Team Up for ‘Operation Protect Veterans’

AARP Idaho and Boise State University computer science graduate students invites you to an exciting education opportunity. Join us on Wednesday, November 1 and Wednesday, November 15 at 2:30pm at the offices of AARP Idaho. There is free two hour visitor parking on the east side of the building.

Thanks in part to a grant from AARP, downtown Kuna will be popping on Saturday, October 21 when the Bernie Fisher Parking Lot becomes the site of Park for a Day, a “pop-up plaza” with live entertainment, food, booths and other activities for people of all ages. The project goal is to help the community visualize a future for the parking lot, and how best to redesign it to improve its function as a parking lot and also as a catalyst for revitalizing downtown and connect city parks, the greenbelt and Main Street. The project will gather public input using outreach tactics to help spark new ideas, such as temporary street narrowing, pedestrian crossings and landscapes and visioning tools like maps and drawings.

As Medicare open enrollment gets under way, state Insurance Director Dean Cameron will answer questions about the program during a tele-town hall sponsored by AARP Idaho on Thursday, Oct. 19, at 10 a.m. Anyone who wants to join the conversation can email aarpid@aarp.org for call-in instructions.

AARP Idaho has appointed Corrine Tafoya Fisher to their executive council – the highest state-level volunteer position within the nonprofit, nonpartisan organization. AARP Idaho has more than 187,000 members statewide and more than 38 million members nationwide.
