New research shows Idaho ranks 34 th in the total number of identity thefts, fraud and other consumer complaints within the Gem State. That translates to just over 450 complaints per 100,000 residents.
Over 50% of those 65+ in the US rely on Social Security for most of their family income. Though America has evolved over the last 80 years, Social Security has not. With no change to current policy and spending, Social Security can only continue to pay out full benefits until 2034.
Francoise Cleveland has joined the Idaho office of AARP as the Associate State Director of Advocacy working within the organization’s structure to provide state and federal government relations, grassroots organizing, and community outreach.

AARP Idaho and the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) are hosting two Encore Entrepreneur events in July to help Idahoans age 50-plus start or grow a new business. The workshops offer opportunities for budding entrepreneurs to get information and connect with mentors who have small-business experience.
In recognition of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day on June 15, the Idaho Department of Finance and the Idaho Commission on Aging spotlight the importance of safeguarding Idaho’s senior population by keeping a watchful eye for signs of elder financial exploitation and promptly reporting possible abuse to appropriate officials.

The Andrus Award for Community Service honors volunteers who spark change and improve their communities one act at a time. The award honors the spirit of AARP’s founder, Ethel Percy Andrus, who started AARP when she found a retired educator in need.
