AARP leaders and volunteers from Illinois and across the nation traveled to Capitol Hill to meet with members of Congress on Wednesday, April 25 th urging Congressional leaders to make permanent the medical expense tax deduction threshold of 7.5 percent, maintain SNAP funding in the Farm bill, and to show their commitment to family caregiving by joining the Assisting Caregivers Today (ACT) caucus.
Springfield, Ill. – AARP Illinois issued the following statement Friday thanking the state House of Representatives for voting 65-38 for HB 4900, a proposal to require generic drug companies to justify drastic increases in price to the state Attorney General.

Saturday, March 10th: AARP Illinois along with the National Women Veterans United, The United States Postal Inspection Service, and the Jesse Brown VA Medical Center honored Women’s History Month and National Consumer Protection Week by launching Operation Protect Veterans.
AARP Illinois held a press conference on proposed utilities "rider" with its partners the Citizens Utility Board and the Illinois Public Interest Research Group standing up for Illinois consumers. AARP commends State Representative Will Guzzardi for his leadership in introducing legislation to protect ratepayers against skyrocketing rate.
SPRINGFIELD- The facts are staggering. Illinois’ backlog of unpaid bills remains over $8.5 billion. Late interest payments owed exceeds $1 billion. Unfunded public pension obligations have reached $130 billion. Illinois’ credit rating is 50th in the nation and near junk bond status.
As we all know, 2018 is a critical year for Illinoisans and all Americans. A lot is at stake in this year’s elections and we want to make sure Illinoisans, and especially those ages 50 and older, have essential information at their disposal in order to make the best decisions for themselves, their loved ones, and their communities.
