Join AARP Indiana for a virtual conversation on Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) and explore how this underutilized housing option can serve the 50+ population and their families. Depending on the state or community, ADUs can exist in many shapes and sizes, and AARP Indiana staff and volunteers will speak with a local planner in Allen County to discuss which type is permitted in their jurisdiction and a local businesswoman who built an ADU addition on to her home.
AARP Indiana is addressing a lack of affordable housing in Evansville and Vanderburgh County by making recommendations to local leaders as they update zoning ordinances and by helping older residents make their homes safer to live in as they age.
In 2020, St. Joseph County joined the AARP Network of Age-Friendly States and Communities. It is the first county in Indiana to join this group of municipalities dedicated to making their communities great places for people of all ages.
Four organizations have received AARP 2020 Community Challenge grants to fund projects that can be quickly executed to improve the quality of life for people of all ages.
