AARP Iowa is recruiting volunteers to help hungry Iowans age 50-plus stretch their food budgets while improving nutrition.

In cooperation with the Iowa Food Bank Association, volunteers will help people apply for the state’s Food Assistance Program, which provides a debit-like card that can be used at grocery stores. Only about a third of Iowans age 60 and older who are eligible for the program are enrolled.

Volunteers also are needed to make presentations on how to shop for and prepare nutritious, economical meals. To get involved, email AARP volunteer Sue Klaessy at sklaessy@aarp.org or call 866-554-5378 toll-free.
