Women's History Month is underway, and we're excited to celebrate the ground-breaking contributions of amazing women to communities nationwide. Originating as Women's History Week in 1981, March was officially dedicated to honoring women's achievements in 1987. And AARP joins in the nation in celebrating women for their leadership, mentoring, and dedication to their communities in ways that have changed the course of history.

AARP Iowa is urging state legislators on both sides of the aisle to cap out-of-pocket insulin costs for Iowans on state-regulated health insurance plans. A state cap on insulin costs would protect nearly 250,000 Iowans on state-regulated health insurance plans from out-of-control insulin prices.

We know it takes time to build great communities. But we also believe that tangible improvements can spark long-term change. AARP launched the Community Challenge to fund projects that build momentum to improve livability nationwide.

Paige Yontz began serving as Advocacy Manager for the Iowa state office in January 2023 after working in a variety of roles focused on serving the 50+ population, including as a nursing home administrator. AARP Iowa's Advocacy Manager is responsible for the development and implementation of our federal, state, and local-level advocacy and policy efforts.

Iowa’s annual state legislative session kicks off in January, and AARP will be at the Capitol in Des Moines working for passage of bills that benefit older Iowans.

In pursuit of our core mission to empower Iowans to choose how they live as they age, our 2022 outreach was heavily focused on state and local advocacy, educational programming, and organizing fun activities that build social connections. After over two years of exclusively virtual programming, we were thrilled to be able to return to in-person events in 2022.

With Iowa’s state legislative session set to kick off on Monday, Jan. 9, AARP is inviting members to make their voices heard on issues that affect the quality of life for older adults.
