AARP Iowa is excited to be sponsoring another free movie screening! This month’s movie will be The Zookeeper’s Wife. The movie is set in 1939 Poland and follows the life of Antonina Żabińska and Dr. Jan Żabiński as they care for the Warsaw Zoo. After their country is invaded by the Germans, Jan and Antonina begin covertly working with the Resistance and use what has become of their zoo to save lives. The danger increases and Antonina begins putting herself and even her children at great risk.
Hello! My name is Ellen Converse and I am one of the two communications interns in the Iowa AARP office this summer. We just finished week two on the job and wow, have we learned a lot.
Des Moines Performing Arts is offering discount tickets for AARP members at selected theater and music performances in the Willis Broadway Series and at the Temple for the Performing Arts. The shows include The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, which runs May 16-21.

Innovation Concept Challenge Looking for Ideas to Disrupt Aging
More than 140 community leaders, residents and volunteers gathered for the Fourth Annual Report to the Community of the Greater Des Moines Age-Friendly Community ‘Great Places for All Ages’ initiative and Tomorrow Plan Speaker Series presentation at Des Moines University Olsen Medical Education Center on Friday, Dec. 16th.
The City of Des Moines’ efforts to encourage energy efficiency, sustainability and age-friendly practices have earned the city and Mayor Frank Cownie inclusion in the new book, “Where We Live: Communities for All Ages, 100+ Inspiring Ideas from America’s Mayors,” by Nancy LeaMond, AARP Executive Vice President for Community, State and National Affairs.
All are invited to join AARP and volunteer and community leaders of the Greater Des Moines Age-Friendly Initiative for the fourth annual report to the community on Friday, Dec. 16th at Des Moines University, this year featuring special guest Daniel Parolek.
