AARP Kansas is hosting a Caregiver Cafe to give caregivers and those they look after a way to relax and take a break from routine.

The Kansas Corporation Commission (KCC) has ordered Kansas Gas Service to refund money to its customers as a result of savings it received from the Federal Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA). Kansas Gas Service customers will receive a one-time credit to their gas bill of $21.06 as a result of the order.

AARP Foundation Tax-Aide program volunteers in Kansas are ready to get to work assisting Kansas taxpayers with their tax preparation.

According to the Kansas Corporation Commission (KCC), the application, filed by Kansas Gas Service in June, requests a $42.7 million dollar net base rate increase. If approved, the average residential customer’s natural gas bill will increase by $5.67 per month, an increase of 10 percent. AARP Kansas is spreading the word about a new law that aims to help family caregivers be better prepared when a loved one comes home from a hospital stay. Trained volunteers are available to give presentations about the law to community groups across the state.

Members of the Kansas Legislature are back in Topeka for the 2018 session and AARP volunteers and staff are also at the Statehouse meeting with legislators and advocating for AARP Kansas priorities and issues that are important to Kansans who are 50 and older.
