No Need to Scream for Free Ice Cream

CINCINNATI MUSEUM m

AARP New Hampshire wants to make your summer a bit sweeter, with the chance to learn about an AARP-sponsored activity, performance or volunteering opportunity that appeals to you.

You might even find a new favorite ice cream flavor or parlor, because the sweetener is six opportunities during the summer to get a free small cone or cup for yourself and one guest at a different Manchester-area ice cream shop.

AARP staff and volunteers will be on hand at each ice cream parlor to chat about local discounts, activities and events, which have ranged from a beginners kayaking session to personal finance workshops to tastings at local wineries.

Member reactions vary, but have included comments such as “‘I never knew you did things like this,’ or ‘I never even knew you had a state office,’” said Jamie Bulen, AARP New Hampshire director for communications. “We found that people were also interested in finding out about volunteering opportunities.”

The free Ice Cream Night events will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on the first and third Tuesdays of June, July and August.

The location of each ice cream shop will be posted at aarp.org/manchester. Members must show their membership cards to get their free ice cream.—Joe Magruder
