AARP advocates on policy issues that matter most to Maryland residents age 50 and over and their families. In our state legislative advocacy efforts, we rely on our hundreds of volunteers and more than 800,000 members across Maryland.
Patients in Maryland hospitals spent a median time of 247 minutes in the ER before leaving. AARP will work with a coalition of other groups on legislative steps to address the problem.

AARP Maryland is launching a 16-week transit advertising campaign to help more Marylanders access COVID-19 vaccinations in their area. Aimed at audiences that may lack access to broadband internet, the posters appearing in both English and Spanish on 35 bus shelters and 206 transit buses across Baltimore, Montgomery County and the Eastern Shore shares the state’s toll-free line (855-GO-MDVAX) if they have questions or to schedule a vaccine appointment.
Fraudsters are offering older people purported miracle cures, preventive drugs and vaccine appointments—for a fee. These scams exploit potential victims’ anxiety about having to wait for a vaccination. The past year has heightened people’s isolation and made them more susceptible to such pitches.

ANNAPOLIS (April 9, 2021) -- The General Assembly took significant steps late yesterday to protect low-income Marylanders’ utility bills, while also maximizing state funds, with the passage of SB31/HB397. The legislation ensures that deregulated electricity and natural gas prices offered to families on energy assistance meet, or beat, regulated utility rates.
