AARP Massachusetts is pleased to announce that the Caregiver Advise, Record, Enable (CARE) Act went into effect as state law on Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2017!
What’s your image of a caregiver? If you envisaged a middle-aged woman, one who is caring for an ailing parent, you wouldn’t be wrong. AARP research shows that the “typical” family caregiver is a 49-year old woman who cares for a relative.
In honor of November as National Family Caregivers Month, Create the Good from AARP is sponsoring a unique way to nominate and honor a caregiver. We're sponsoring 25 Days, 25 Ways to Care, a contest and sweepstakes in which you create and submit a short video of your favorite caregiver. The award is a $2,500 donation to a charity of the caregiver’s choice!
This is not fiction: A 101-year-old Massachusetts senior with a serious heart condition has the ability to live independently in his home, with the help of his daughter, but may be forced into a nursing home because he cannot get the home care services he needs. He is currently on a waiting list — for home care.
