AARP Michigan volunteers took a crash course in door-to-door canvassing today, as they prepare to help Flint residents fill out permission cards for tainted water service line replacement.

AARP Michigan will help older adults in Flint affected by the Water Crisis and we need volunteers -- people who want to help others throughout the community to be sure their water is safe.

AARP is encouraging Medicare beneficiaries this fall to read their annual Notice of Change and to review their health and prescription drug plan options for 2017 during Medicare Open Enrollment (October 15 th – December 7 th). Given the trend in high prescription medication prices, consumers are advised to pay close attention to their Medicare Part D drug plan options to help save money.

One in every 6 Michiganders struggles with hunger, including more than 700,000 in Southeast Michigan.

WASHINGTON, DC — “Opinions on who won Sunday night’s Presidential debate will vary but who lost is clear: the millions of American voters who want to understand how the candidates would keep Social Security strong for future generations,” AARP Senior Vice President, Campaigns, John Hishta said.

The candidates for Vice President may not have spent as much time talking about Social Security as we would like, but the issue did come up for the first time in a fall debate forum Tuesday night.

AARP Michigan is encouraging every citizen to vote on Tuesday, Nov. 8. The polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Hempstead, NY — “Americans who are working hard and paying into Social Security were the real losers at tonight’s debate,” AARP Senior Vice President, Campaigns, John Hishta said.

WASHINGTON, DC – AARP has released the 2016 Longevity Economy report, an in-depth look at how our nation’s population of 111 million 50-plus consumers impacts the economy. According to the report, the 50-plus age groups generates $7.6 trillion in economic activity (a $500 million increase from 2013), including $5 trillion in consumer spending by people 50-plus. This increase reflects the shifting demographic and spending patterns of this group due to longer life spans and prolonged employment.

Paula D. Cunningham, AARP Michigan State Director and a pioneer in business and education in the Lansing community, will receive the Trailblazer Award from the Michigan Congressional Black Caucus on Friday, Sept.16, at the Mead Center for American Theater in Washington, D.C.
