Caregivers at the Polls: What's at Stake for Caregivers and their Families this Election Year

48 million Americans, 640,000 in Minnesota, care for older parents, spouses, children and adults with disabilities, and other loved ones, helping them to live independently in their homes and communities – where they want to be. Family caregivers are the backbone of America’s care system, yet they continue to face physical, emotional, and financial challenges. Family caregivers deserve better support.

AARP joined voters over 50 to help them make their voices heard on the issues that matter. AARP and Sheletta Brundidge of Sheletta Makes Me Laugh held an interactive conversation on October 5 about caregivers’ experiences, resources, and what’s at stake for caregivers in the 2022 election. Featured speakers included Paurvi Bhatt, Health Care Executive and Family Caregiver; Robbin Fraizer, Associate Director, Equity and Community Engagement at the University of Minnesota School of Public Health; and Mary Jo George, Associate State Director of Advocacy, AARP Minnesota
