Celebrate Pride with AARP Minnesota

Through Pride Month and beyond, AARP recognizes the unique challenges faced by LGBTQ+ older adults and actively works toward creating a more inclusive and supportive environment for them. We believe that LGBTQ+ adults are an integral part of the fabric of our nation and hope to see many of you at the following upcoming events sponsored by AARP Minnesota.

St. Paul Pride – June 15
Twin Cities Pride – June 29-30
West. St. Paul Pride – July 13
The GALA Choruses Festival – July 10-14

In partnership with AARP’s Movies for Grownups, join AARP and watch The Wiz on Tuesday, June 25 at 7 p.m. Ease on down the yellow-brick road with The Wiz, starring superstars Diana Ross and Lena Horne! Relive all of the magic of this beloved musical when Dorothy is whisked away to the enchanting wonderland of Oz, where she encounters the Scarecrow, the Tinman, and the Lion. Register in advance.

This year, Pride coincides with the 55th anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising, which began June 28, 1969, in New York City. Early that morning, police raided the Stonewall Inn, a popular club in Greenwich Village. But unlike in previous raids, patrons did not leave and clashed with police in a confrontation that included hundreds of demonstrators. The riots continued into the following week. This Pride Month marks a larger reason for a celebration of the resilience of the LGBTQ+ community through decades of discrimination. In fact, the Stonewall National Monument Visitor Center is opening June 28 with a private event. AARP is a founding sponsor of the visitor center.
