Lunches to Honor Familiy Caregivers

HOME CARE SPOT

Every year, more than a half million Mississippians provide about $5.4 billion worth of unpaid services to help adult loved ones live at home. Now, AARP Mississippi is giving back by hosting lunches for family caregivers.

Caregiving is a stressful and demanding commitment, with family members performing medical tasks—such as managing medications or dressing wounds—as well as helping with everyday needs, such as bathing, dressing and preparing meals.

The lunches, in honor of National Family Caregivers Month, will be held Nov. 6 at the Knight Nonprofit Center in Gulfport and Nov. 14 at Itawamba Community College in Belden.

In addition, caregivers are invited to a Prepare to Care presentation Nov. 21 at the Willie Morris Library in Jackson. Monthly caregiving circles take place in Bay St. Louis, Flowood, Gulfport, Moss Point and Tupelo.
