AARP Montana and Big Sky Senior Services are sponsoring a conference on the need to establish guardianship standards to protect Montana adults with physical or cognitive disabilities.

The conference is Oct. 22 at Big Horn Resort in Billings. The first half is targeted to social workers, lawyers, judges and other professionals working on the front lines of guardianship issues. The second half is geared to family members and volunteers who serve as guardians.

Conference organizers hope the event will lay the groundwork to standardize the way guardians are appointed, trained and monitored in Montana. This year, AARP supported several bills to strengthen the state’s elder-protection laws.

Registration is required by Oct. 16. For more information or to register, call Big Sky Senior Services at 406-259-3111 or go to bigskyseniorservices.org.
