AARP Eye Center
As AARP is fighting for the issues that matter to 50+ Americans and their families, we’re also taking on an organizational challenge that is critical to our success – moving from being a “national” to a “nationwide” organization. What does this mean?
National to Nationwide is a conscious shift in the way we think, work and execute our social mission. It’s a recognition that a one-size-fits-all national agenda is not the best way to improve the experience of aging across our diverse country. We need to be active at the community level to make authentic connections. And we need to leverage the power of state and local, as well as national, expertise to develop programs that meet community needs – and advocacy that is powerful with lawmakers.
National to Nationwide is not a completely new concept for AARP, but rather a redoubling of our effort – a move to ensure that this way of thinking and working is part of our very fabric. Decision making does not only happen in DC. We start every initiative impacting states with state representatives at the table. And we offer states and communities flexibility to do their work in a way that works. Volunteer voices and expertise are a crucial part of this mix – and we very much appreciate you sharing yours with AARP. Visit the Volunteer Portal and search “National to Nationwide” to learn more about this work. And thank you for all that you do!
