Bounded by Willow, Valley, Pine and Auburn Streets, the Cemetery occupies 20 acres one block southeast of the SNHU Arena. City records indicate that the Valley Cemetery land was donated to the City by Amoskeag Manufacturing Corporation in 1841 to meet the needs of Manchester’s growing population, the cemetery was laid out in the style of a garden cemetery, carefully landscaped to blend the beauty of nature with the beauty of art. Learn about many of Manchester’s early citizens, including a prominent governor, a Swiss artist, Manchester’s first female black landowner, and a popular physician died of a cholera outbreak in 1849.
