The AARP New Hampshire-sponsored talk show, Senior Speak NH, one of the longest running programs on ConcordTV, kicks off 2024 with a new host.
Dan Wise, an AARP volunteer with decades of journalism and communications experience, will succeed host since 2016 Karen Ulmer Dorsch, who is moving out of the state.
Wise, who has been active in the AARP NH Capital City Task Force and Voter Advocacy projects, moved to New Hampshire in 1986, and has lived in Concord since 1993. His journalism career started at the Trenton Times in New Jersey’s capital city in 1977. He moved to NH to serve as editor of Business NH Magazine, and later joined the NH Bar Association as editor of an award-winning monthly newspaper and director of its public relations efforts.
In 2016, at age 60, he left the Bar Association to pursue a “twilight career” in health care. He obtained an associate’s degree in occupational therapy, and has worked in a variety of settings, including nursing homes and schools, since earning his OTA license in 2019. He writes on a freelance basis, mostly on health policy and wellness topics, including contributing to a blog produced by the New Hampshire Coalition for Suicide Prevention at www.zerosuicidesnh.org.
Senior Speak NH, which has been on ConcordTV since 2007, covers topics of interest to older Granite Staters. Wise hopes to continue that tradition while at the same time providing a fresh perspective.
“I’m very excited to have this opportunity to exercise my reporting muscles by finding guests and developing shows that appeal to older adults in New Hampshire,” Wise said. “I want to celebrate this great state and deliver programs that can enhance the quality of life for all as we age.”
His guest for his first show airing in January is scheduled to be Jim Cole, a news photographer who covered New Hampshire events and our renowned presidential primary for nearly 20 years. Cole will tell stories and show some of his compelling photos that have helped shape the image of our state.
Wise welcomes program or guest suggestions as he makes plans for 2024. If you have a suggestion, please email nh@aarp.org.
