Portsmouth Athenaeum Tour April 2025 (600 x 600 px).png

Situated in the heart of historic Market Square in downtown Portsmouth, The Athenaeum is an independent membership library, exhibit gallery, and historic treasure trove.

The Athenæum (9 Market Square) houses an outstanding collection of documents and artifacts relating to local history. It also preserves what is undoubtedly the finest collection in the state of materials relating to the history of New Hampshire’s only major seaport.

Join us for a FREE guided tour of this amazing place on April 10 (1-2 pm). You’ll get an up close and personal look at the special exhibit featuring Diners in Portsmouth through history.

Street parking is limited and metered. Closet public parking garage is Hanover Street Garage (2 Hanover Street).
