CANCELLED DUE TO WEATHER Nature Walk Fall Stroll

Fall Nature Walk July 2022.jpg

Come September, our natural world is beginning the necessary transition from a busy summer season of growth and dispersal to preparations for the challenges of the coming winter.

Wear comfortable shoes and join AARP NH and Kelly Dwyer on September 22 as we stroll through the lovely Urban Forestry Center trail system, situated adjacent to a beautiful tidal saltmarsh on Sagamore Creek in Portsmouth, NH. Along the relatively level route, which meanders through pine forests and streams, we will explore the following:

  • Migration and hibernation as seasonal survival strategies: preparation, timing, and the potential hazards
  • Animal adaptations for those species who remain active and brave the cold, snowy months
  • Tree transitions: fall’s brilliance to leaf litter and the role this process plays in ecological health
