Few things are as deeply woven into the fabric of our nation as Social Security. For over eight decades, this bedrock program has offered economic security and dignity to millions of retirees, people with disabilities, and surviving spouses and children. It is a sacred promise between the government and the American people who pay in and earn their Social Security over a lifetime of hard work.
AARP knows you work hard and pay into Social Security, so it's only fair for you to expect to get the money you've earned. The new administration has reassured AARP that Social Security payments will be protected.
New Hampshire Social Security Score Card:
- More than 1 in 5 Granite Staters—317,389 people—receive Social Security benefits.
- One third of Granite Staters ages 65 and older would be living in poverty if not for Social Security.
- 41% of individuals 65 and older live in families that rely on the program for at least half of their income.
- Social Security payments pump at least $5.7 billion into the state's economy every year.
AARP will continue to fight for and advocate on the issues that matter most to older Americans. Read more at our story with our Senior Vice President of Government Affairs.
