Fall is a perfect time to visit Strawbery Banke Museum in downtown Portsmouth and Sunday, October 6 has been declared AARP day with special discounts and a special lecture. AARP members can enjoy a self-guided tour of the Museum’s 30 historic buildings, eight gardens, costumed role players and hands-on craft activities all for a discounted admission price of $12 (regularly $17.50).
“Last year, AARP held a series of open houses to find out what New Hampshire residents wanted from their membership and a constant theme emerged,” said AARP New Hampshire State Director Kelly Clark. “They wanted local offerings – at New Hampshire venues – and the chance to meet other AARP members. So this is exactly what we are offering.”
Free with admission will be a special program on the 1713 Treaty of Portsmouth. Titled “The Common Pot,” the one-hour lecture starts at 2:00 pm in the Visitors Center and will be presented by Lisa Brooks of Amherst College’s Native American Studies Program.
The outdoor history museum is a fun place for children, adults and families and is open 10:00 to 5:00 on October 6.
“AARP staff and volunteers will also be at this National Historic Landmark,” concluded Clark. “We encourage people to stop by and learn about AARP in their communities.”
There more! On November 2, there will be a special AARP member ticket price of $10 (regularly $26) as UNH Wildcats take to the ice against rival UMass Lowell. The Currier Museum of Art will host AARP members on October 19 with a special admission price and free lecture on Mama Benz and the Taste of Money. And rounding out activities in 2013 is AARP Day at Manchester’s Millyard Museum on November 9 with discounted admission and a free lecture on Who Murdered Jonas Parker?
