Every day, millions of Americans lose their hard-earned money to identity theft and other types of scams. Last year alone, 16.7 million people from communities across the nation lost $17 billion to identity fraud alone. That’s one person victimized every two seconds!

AARP New Hampshire is teaming up with AARP Vermont for a document-shredding event on August 15 (11 am to 1 pm) at the Upper Valley Aquatic Center (100 Arboretum Lane) parking lot in White River Junction, VT. This drive-through service is free and open to the public. Bring up to three boxes per car of personal papers, such as credit card bills, legal documents, bank statements, old checks and forms that display your Social Security number. The documents will be shredded on-site.

Shredding events are part of AARP’s fraud prevention efforts. Imposter Scams are the most reported scams in the Granite State.

“We want to help people stay one step ahead of scammers and identity theft,” says Pam Dube, AARP New Hampshire, Associate State Director of Communications. "These free document shredding events are a way to protect Vermonters from those scams happening around the state."

The AARP Fraud Watch NetworkTM is a free resource for all.
