AARP New Mexico will focus on two main priority bills for the 2017 New Mexico Legislative Session – the first focusing on paid leave for family caregivers and the second will study retirement savings options.
Join AARP New Mexico at the 2016 28 th New Mexico Conference on Aging for a fun and informative two days of work sessions, keynote speakers and entertainment, ranging on topics from fitness, preparing for retirement, stress management, and helping to shape future policies for people as they age.
A ARP New Mexico is once again looking to honor those individuals who have made a substantial contribution to New Mexico through their volunteer activities. The 2016 State Andrus Award for Community Service honors 50 plus New Mexicans who are sharing their experience, talent, and skills to help improve their communities.
AARP New Mexico is pleased to announce that it has awarded its highest honor, the 2015 AARP New Mexico Andrus Award for Community Service, to Ms. Janell Whitlock of Carlsbad.
Dorothy “Dottie” Hu of Corrales is a force to be reckoned with. She doesn’t just give of her time to others, she ensures that children are taken care of in the most desperate of times and encourages others who might be feeling forgotten or left out, to accompany her on her journey.
Two of AARP New Mexico’s volunteer leaders, Jerry Gunderson, of Las Cruces, and Mabel Blacksheep, of Window Rock, AZ, have been accepted into the AARP Volunteer Leadership Institute. The Institute is an intensive leadership program that prepares volunteers for new responsibilities and opportunities that support AARP’s mission.
AARP is now accepting nominations for its 2014 New Mexico Andrus Award for Community Service, which honors 50+ volunteers who are sharing their experience, talent, and skills to enrich the lives of their community members.
Mary Beavis, of Albuquerque, has been named AARP New Mexico’s 2013 Andrus Award winner. The award is named for AARP’s founder Dr. Ethel Percy Andrus and is given to a volunteer who most exemplifies her example and motto of “to serve, not to be served.”
From time to time, AARP New Mexico seeks to honor individuals who have had a significant impact on making New Mexicans’ lives better by naming them to the Hall of Fame.
Many people don't realize that AARP has a local presence here in New Mexico through the State Office in Santa Fe and the AARP Information Center in Albuquerque.
