AARP NY Honors Dr. Law with the Andrus Award for Community Service

AARP New York is proud to announce that Dr. Tim Law has been selected to receive the 2023 Andrus Award for Community Service, the Associations most prestigious and visible state volunteer award for community service.

Dr. Tim Law immigrated to the United States in 1968. He has worked for 35 years as a teacher and administrator for the New York City Department of Education. He founded the Chinese American Social Services Center (CASS) and has done endless volunteer work, helping underprivileged individuals and other immigrants like himself. Dr. Law has organized voter registration drives, food giveaways, provides free translation services, and hosted round-table discussions with city commissioners and the NYPD on matters of immigration and government assistance. He has dedicated time and effort in order to amplify the voices of those in need and help community members better understand their rights and the services available to them.

To recognize Dr. Tim Law's significant contributions, he will he awarded the AARP New York Award for Community Service. The annual Andrus Award for Community Service is AARP's most prestigious and visible volunteer award. It recognizes individuals who are sharing their experience, talent, and skills to enrich their communities in ways that are consistent with AARP's purpose, vision, and commitment to volunteer service, and that encourage others to volunteer.

Dr. Tim Law has exemplified these qualities through his volunteering and ability to inspire other community leaders to start their own initiatives that build off of his hard work. Despite facing adversity, challenges, and racism due to his background and circumstances, his consistent drive to continue helping others is a true testament to his commitment. Dr. Law has supported AARP's vision and purpose because of his ability to ensure every person is treated equally with dignity and respect. Through all of his volunteer work, he focuses on providing every aging adult with the services and representation they deserve. Congratulations, Dr. Law!
