EN ESPAÑOL | NEW YORK — AARP New York commends the reintroduction of the Credit for Caring Act, legislation that would provide financial relief to eligible working family caregivers. The bill, co-sponsored by U.S. Representatives Mike Lawler, Nicole Malliotakis and Ritchie Torres of New York, offers up to a $5,000 nonrefundable federal tax credit to help offset caregiving expenses, addressing the significant personal and financial sacrifices caregivers make to support their loved ones. On average, family caregivers spend over $7,200 annually —26% of their income — on out-of-pocket expenses.
Groups Urge Governor to Stand with Legislature on Energy Affordability Measures
ALBANY, N.Y. – AARP New York State Director Beth Finkel issued the following statement today on the state Senate passing S.488 (Senator Nathalia Fernandez), which would require prescription drug manufacturers to notify the attorney general of arrangements between pharmaceutical companies resulting in the delay of the introduction of generic medications. The legislation has been introduced in the Assembly by Assemblymember Emily Gallagher (A.2289).
Newburgh, N.Y. – Carole McDermott received yesterday AARP’s highest state volunteer honor, the 2024 AARP New York Andrus Award for Community Service for her many decades of volunteer work making sure homebound people received meals.
