Newly released data from the U.S. Census Bureau’s American Community Survey shows that the percentage of households on Long Island with at least one resident who is 65 years or older has risen, indicating Long Island’s growing population of seniors. As the population ages, more and more people are seeking ways to live independently in their homes as they grow older. This collaboration is about creating lasting change in our community by providing real solutions to real challenges.

Calling All Caregivers…A home needs SCARF!

Caregivers benefit from homes that are adapted to facilitate caregiving, offering Safety, Comfort, Accessibility, Respite, Fixes for both the caregiver and the person receiving care. Here's a more detailed explanation:

Safety: Safety measures like grab bars in bathrooms, non-slip flooring, and clear pathways are crucial to prevent falls and accidents.

Comfort: A comfortable environment can improve the quality of life for both the caregiver and the person receiving care.

Accessibility: Homes should have features that allow easy movement, such as ramps, wider doorways, and accessible bathrooms for caregivers and their loved ones.

Respite: Having a dedicated space for respite, where caregivers can take breaks and recharge, is essential for preventing burnout.

Fix its: Assess all areas of your home to fix and improve for better living. Redesign your kitchen area for meal preparation for multiple people. Create a dedicated space for storage of caregiving supplies.
