Take the AARP Community Challenge

cq5dam.web.300.192

AARP New York is doing their part to help communities across the state make positive improvements in their neighborhoods.

The group kicked off its Community Challenge Grant Program, which awards funding to groups and governments across New York State working to implement tangible community improvement projects.

The program, which falls under AARP’s Livable Communities initiative, is open to 501(C) 3 and 510(C) 4 non-profits and government entities.

Project submissions can range from simple improvements that cost in the hundreds, to brand-new initiatives that run in the thousands, but they must provide benefits for all New Yorkers – regardless of age or ability. The best submissions will not only contribute to the built environment, but will facilitate community interaction and bring together a diverse array of residents.

There is a lot that makes a community “livable” – from safety to appearance to inclusivity. Projects might involve innovative solutions traffic and road conditions—such as creating bike lanes or adjusting time constraints at crosswalks—or focus on improving community bonds through new activities and programs to encourage biking and walking.

The application opened June 12 and will remain open until June 30. Visit our website for an application and more details.
