Help Advocate for Older North Carolinians

Advocacy Volunteer

AARP North Carolina is recruiting volunteers to engage with lawmakers on issues important to older adults.

In the 2023 legislative session, AARP volunteers were instrumental in pushing for the expansion of Medicaid, which would extend the government health insurance program to more than 600,000 low-income North Carolinians. The expansion is contingent on passage of a biennial budget for fiscal year 2024-25.

Volunteer advocates call and email lawmakers, and meet with them in person, to help educate them about issues that affect older North Carolinians, from affordable housing to support for caregivers. Training is provided.
