AARP Eye Center
When voters show up at the polls in some of North Carolinas larger cities, they may notice a campaign sign that looks a lot different than those of the candidates. AARP’s “Take a Stand” volunteers are fanning out across the state pressing candidates from both parties to lay out their plans to keep Social Security financially sound for future generations.
This week on "Without Limits," you'll learn more about the urgency to strengthen the program and how AARP members are asking for the specifics of "how" our leaders in Washington will get the job done.
Program hosts Mike Oldender and David Gwilt talk to AARP Senior Vice President John Hishta about AARP Campaigns including "Take a Stand."
John Hishta is a nationally recognized political strategist and consultant. Prior to joining AARP in 2011, he spent over twenty years advising a variety of candidates for public office, election officials, national committees and business groups.
As Senior Vice President, Campaigns, John leads the department tasked with managing and executing successful issue campaigns at the state and national level on AARP’s top priorities. On the federal level, these efforts have included successful campaigns to protect Medicare and Social Security. On the state level they have included efforts to protect consumers from unfair utility rate hikes, expanding opportunities for employees in the area of retirement savings, helping caregivers face the many challenges of caring for their loved ones, and educating the public with a highly informative fraud prevention campaign.
Learn why Social Security is so vital and how AARP is working to make sure people of all ages receive the Social Security benefits they've earned.
