RALEIGH, NC —AARP North Carolina proudly announces the appointment of Jeanne Van Divender, PhD, as its new State President. In this top volunteer leadership role, Van Divender will guide AARP’s mission to deliver impactful programs, trusted information, and strong advocacy for more than 1.1 million members across North Carolina.
Van Divender began her volunteer journey with AARP North Carolina in 2010 as a Key Legislative Contact. Over the years, she has served in multiple leadership roles, including Chair of the AARP NC Executive Council and Volunteer Portal Training Specialist (VPTS), where she supports volunteers nationwide.
Recognized for Volunteer Service
“Jeanne’s volunteer work goes far beyond her dedication to other volunteers,” said Michael Olender, AARP North Carolina Director. “She is a dynamic presenter, delivering engaging sessions on HomeFit, digital literacy, and fraud prevention—topics critical to older adults. Her impact was recognized in 2023 when she received the AARP North Carolina Andrus Award, our highest volunteer honor.”
Professional Expertise that Drives Advocacy
A Raleigh resident, Van Divender holds a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Virginia and enjoyed a distinguished career in the chemical and pharmaceutical industries. Today, she leverages her expertise in Knowledge and Information Management to simplify complex policy issues, helping older adults understand how legislation affects their lives.
Passionate about Lifelong Learning and Adventure
Beyond her volunteer work, Van Divender enjoys home renovation projects, traveling—especially to U.S. National Parks (she’s visited all 50 states)—reading, and solving crossword and jigsaw puzzles. She also cherishes time with her three grandchildren.
