Life Reimagined in the Queen City

Olender, Michael

The life you’ve dreamed of having is actually very possible. To make it real doesn’t require major tasks or grand gestures. It’s about making small and simple steps to help you figure out what you really want, and then starting to make that happen. AARP's  Life Reimagined program offers a real opportunity to get started with hundreds of "check up sessions" taking place all across the country this year.

Here in Charlotte, a local group of trained AARP volunteers and staff are leading these "check ups" that allow people to assess where they've been in their life and to identifying their "what's next".

"We're aiming to make Charlotte the best place in America to hit the 'reset button', said Mike Olender, AARP North Carolina Associate State Director from the Charlotte region. "We all need those opportunities to reassess how we're living our lives, and Charlotte is a great place to do it because there are a lot of options here that don't exist elsewhere. That being the case, we've hosted fifteen Life Reimagined programs in the Queen City this year and we'll be offering them on a regular basis in 2016 as well".

Life Reimagined programs have taken place in every corner of Charlotte and in a variety of different venues, ranging from local library branches to the Museum of the New South to Discovery Place's Education Studio. At these sessions trained Life Reimagined "guides" walk participants through a series of exercises and discussions that help people retool themselves for their what's next, whether its a new career, life without a spouse or the kids living at home, or any other life changing transition.

"Life Reimagined is truly a unique program in that it doesn't offer any blanket answers, Olender said. "We're all unique individuals with different stories to tell. But the proven process for getting where you want to be is remarkably simple and well within the ability of any person looking to improve and more fully enjoy their life".
