Organization maintains transparency and accountability vital in nursing home funding

In response to the Ohio legislature passing the state budget bill, Holly Holtzen, AARP Ohio state director, released the following statement:

"AARP is greatly appreciative to Gov. Mike DeWine and the Ohio legislature for including measures in the state budget that benefit Ohio’s 50-plus population, namely the restoration of the Healthy Aging Grants program, as well as measures that bolster Adult Protective Services, continue the Superintendent of Insurance’s ability to regulate solicitation from Medicare supplemental plans and prohibit unfair right-to-list agreements.

AARP also appreciates the provisions that authorize the state low-income housing tax credits for affordable housing projects, as affordable housing is critical to allowing older adults to live in their homes as they age and help maintain their independence.

We are also encouraged by the nursing home reform provisions, and will continue to closely analyze the bill to ensure it will promote the safety and security of Ohioans 50-plus, responding to the concerns we heard during the Nursing Home Quality and Accountability Task Force meetings. We look forward to working with the Ohio legislature to guarantee Ohioans have what they need to thrive in the state.”
