Have You Thanked a Volunteer Today?

Volunteers - what would the world do without them? It’s hard to imagine. Volunteers selflessly do good for many reasons, and for most it is the rewarding feeling that comes from helping others. From grocery shopping for an elderly neighbor to advocating on behalf an important issue, volunteers have a passion that extends beyond the ordinary. And at AARP Ohio, we have some of the best!

It’s hard to imagine the work we do without our amazing volunteers. In fact, they do so much for AARP members and their families that during National Volunteer Week we wanted to take a moment to thank all volunteers for what they do, with a very special thank you to AARP Ohio volunteers.

Jane Taylor, AARP Ohio state director states the feelings of our whole staff, “What would we do without such dedicated people in Ohio? We honor you.”

Why do our volunteers do what they do? “Volunteers working together can re-imagine the world,” says Sanford Holmes of Dayton. “By serving others you can make a difference both in their lives and yours.”

AARP volunteer Stan Levine from Elyria says, “It's truly a wonderful feeling of accomplishment. You’re needed in a way that gives your life meaning and purpose.”

Even 84 year old AARP volunteer Bob Notestine, who has been volunteering for 60 years, says, "I look forward daily to whatever volunteer assignment awaits me. Some assignments are challenging but all are mentally rewarding."

We couldn’t have said it better ourselves. So make sure you say thank you to your volunteers or maybe just that friend, family member or neighbor who helps you out every once in a while. Even if it's a simple note or email, just say thank you. Two simple words that can mean so much to the person hearing them.

And for what all volunteers do to make the world a better place, we simply say, thank you!
