From her glass-walled conference room perch, Carla Kelley has the world at her feet—well, at least Portland. Portland, where she came for love, found that her true love was Portland itself. Now in the position of Senior Counsel at a major Portland law firm, Carla actually retired from full-time employment several years ago. But her experience and skills made her an attractive candidate to work in the firm’s business group. She now works part-time and, at age 71, is a woman on the go with a “rolodex” any mover and shaker would envy.
Here is a simple fact. When you board horses, dogs and other animals, you never get bored! At 77, Joanne Mead is the picture of good health and vitality. She owns a 7 acre horse boarding ranch and dog kennel for the last 45 years and takes care of other animals too. And that, she acknowledges, helps keep her going physically with a little help from friends, family and volunteers. And in her spare time? (Yes she does have some.) She plays music from heavy metal to country.
Between the ages of 16 and 21, he successfully posed as an airline pilot, an attorney, a doctor and cashed millions in fraudulent checks. In case you didn’t read the best-selling book… spoiler alert…he got caught and his exploits were depicted in the movie Catch Me If You Can starring Leonardo DiCaprio.
At our Portland Mayoral Forum, we started the program by hearing from our members. Take a minute and find out what we learned! For example, 97% of AARP members voted in the last election. But we also asked about older workers, transportation, housing and more.
