Reimagining the possibilities of life for Pennsylvanians
As of November 1, 2025, millions of Americans—including many older Pennsylvanians—may not receive their monthly food benefits through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) due to the ongoing federal government shutdown. This disruption affects individuals living on fixed incomes, many of whom rely on SNAP to afford groceries and maintain their health.
Bill Johnston-Walsh, AARP Pennsylvania State Director, issued a statement in response to Governor Josh Shapiro's proclamation declaring November 2025 to be Family Caregivers Month in Pennsylvania.

The 2019 Vision Zero Legislative Breakfast was held on January 31 to present state and city legislative opportunities to make Philadelphia streets safer in 2019. Hosted by AARP Pennsylvania, the Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia, and Families for Safe Streets Greater Philadelphia, the event was well attended by state and city representatives, business leaders and advocates.

Voters age 50 and older were the deciding factor in last year’s midterm elections, according to the National Election Pool Exit Poll results. The findings confirmed that 50-plus voters made up the majority of voters in Pennsylvania (57%) and 56 percent nationally . Candidates who ignored older voters, Pennsylvania’s most powerful voting group, paid a price on Election Day.
More older Pennsylvanians will qualify for prescription drug assistance thanks to newly enacted eligibility standards.
