With Pennsylvania’s general election just 47 days away, data from AARP shows that voters age 50 plus decide elections, and they want politicians to address the issues that matter most to them and their families.
Each year, AARP works in partnership with local leaders, organizations, and dedicated residents to help make that vision a reality. As part of that effort, AARP is excited to announce the largest investment of grant dollars to date through the AARP Community Challenge grant program. More than $3.8 million in quick-action grants are being distributed to 343 projects across all 50 states, Washington D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
AARP Pennsylvania recently released key findings from its first 2024 election survey that shows candidates should pay close attention to Pennsylvanians age 50 and older. The survey also revealed that the priorities and concerns of Pennsylvania women voters 50 and older will likely influence the outcome of the 2024 election and could be the difference in this election.
AARP Pennsylvania today said that while Governor Corbett’s 2013-14 budget proposal released today increases state spending for programs helping older adults remain at home, the plan lacks forward-looking solutions to other issues of interest to the nation’s fourth-largest senior population.
AARP Pennsylvania staff and volunteers celebrated the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, by participating in local events across the state that echoed the belief of its founder Dr. Ethel Percy Andrus, "To serve, not to be served."
AARP Pennsylvania today applauded Governor Corbett’s pledge to channel an additional $50 million in Lottery proceeds to existing home and community-based programs serving older Pennsylvanians in his proposed 2013-14 state budget as an important first step toward balancing the state’s long-term care systems and supports.

AARP Pennsylvania Advocacy Director Ray Landis today told a State Senate Panel that the Corbett Administration’s investigation into privatizing the operations of the state lottery must ensure predictable revenue streams and generate new resources for long-neglected home and community-based services programs serving older adults.

Good things happen when AARP shows up and begins by listening to what a community needs. And that is just what we did in 2012.
This past fall, AARP sponsored a multicultural festival, held at the renowned National Constitution Center in Philadelphia. The festival was a celebration of the diversity and community life that is found throughout the Delaware Valley. The event brought together local residents and guests to celebrate a rich medley of cultures within the African American, Asian, and Hispanic-Latino communities.
