We Earned Social Security—Now Let’s Protect It
It’s that time of year again, Washingtonians—Medicare Open Enrollment is just around the corner! If you are over age 65, you may qualify for a Medicare plan. Medicare open enrollment is from October 15 to December 7, 2025. Medicare beneficiaries in the District can review, switch, or update their coverage for plans that begin January 1, 2026.
As the AARP DC Volunteer State President, I am proud to represent 68,000 AARP members in the District, and on behalf of them and all older District residents, we are advocating for a budget that honors their dignity and needs. For the District’s FY2026 budget, our message is clear: District seniors deserve their fair share of the pie.

Bridging the Justice Gap for Vulnerable Washington, D.C. Elders
A unique scam awareness event invited guests to step into the role of detective, solving a fictional mystery based on real scam tactics while exploring how to spot red flags and protect themselves from fraud in everyday life.
On March 28th, AARP Pennsylvania joined city leaders, and community partners at the 2025 Vision Zero Conference as they highlighted progress, challenges, and the work still ahead to ensure safe, walkable communities for all. We spoke with many city leaders on hand, including City Council President Kenyatta Johnson, Deputy Managing Director Michael Carroll, City Councilmember Isaiah Thomas, and others.

AARP Pennsylvania is raising awareness about this fast-growing fraud tactic that cost Americans over $217 million in 2023 alone, according to the Federal Trade Commission.

Donna's journey is one of resilience and gratitude. Despite the challenges of battling cancer, she continues to work part-time as a Quality Assurance Analyst. The ability to work remotely has been a blessing, allowing her to manage her health while staying productive. Her company has been incredibly supportive, accommodating her schedule and understanding her need to stay safe due to her immunocompromised state.
