RALEIGH -- AARP volunteers were in large numbers at the North Carolina General Assembly when the state’s aging community held an Advocacy Day here in May. With most new legislative proposals being held for the long session in 2025, aging advocates helped set the stage for opportunities lawmakers have to strengthen our communities and make North Carolina a better place for all ages.
BISMARCK, N.D. – AARP strongly opposes Montana Dakota Utilities (MDU) proposal to increase residential natural gas rates by $35.3 million in 2024. The rate increase request made to the North Dakota Public Service Commission would mean that residential customers will see a 9.84 percent increase in their monthly bill.
AARP Virginia backed 13 bills which made it through the full General Assembly during the 2024 session. Ten were signed into law by Governor Glenn Youngkin while three were vetoed.

The hearing for the Guardianship Reform Bill presented by AARP is set for hearing on May 24th in the Virgin Islands Legislature. House Bill 3318, by Rep. Steve Bashore (R-Miami) and Sen. Bill Coleman (R-Ponca City), proactively prevents and prohibits unscrupulous brokers from misleading homeowners into signing decades-long agreements that give the real estate brokers the exclusive right to sell the homes.
Nearly 2 million Ohioans do not have access to a retirement savings plan at work. AARP Ohio supports HB 501, which would create a joint committee to study and report on state-facilitated options to improve access to workplace retirement savings programs for workers in the private sector.
The Indiana Emergency Medical Services Commission has approved more than 30 community paramedicine programs offered by public and private concerns that cover all or parts of more than 50 of the state’s counties.
