End your anxiety over new car tech

**Smart DriverTEK workshops to be held in Texas**

Smart headlights. Assisted steering. Warning devices to prevent forward collisions and unintentional lane departures. These are just a few of the new and emerging technologies being installed in vehicles, some of which can seem daunting to those who are not familiar with the electronic features.

If you’ve bought – or are considering buying a new car – you’ll likely discover that vehicle manufacturers are deploying an array of technologies. And while all the new tech at motorists’ fingertips can boost safety and enhance the driving experience, there’s sometimes a little training needed to operate the tools to their fullest capabilities.

That’s where AARP Smart DriverTEK workshops aim to help. The workshops are designed for those who want to be in the know about the tech in their current or future vehicles.

In March, several of these free workshops are being held throughout Texas, including in Austin, the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, Houston, San Antonio, and elsewhere. For a complete list of workshop locations in Texas and to register, visit this site: aarp.org/findaworkshop.

Robert Garza of Corpus Christi is the volunteer state coordinator in Texas for AARP Driver Safety. He considers Smart DriverTEK ideal for more than just those who find it hard to keep up with the latest vehicle safety technologies. “Anybody and everybody would benefit from these lessons,” he said. “We’re all in the same boat. Hey, we need to know what all us are coming into these cars and how to fully utilize these features.”

Smart DriverTEK is just one of the latest offerings from AARP Driver Safety, a program that’s been helping people stay safe behind the wheel for more than 40 years. Garza said there are numerous volunteer opportunities for Texans willing to help other Texans get on the road to safety. They can do so, he said, by becoming an AARP Driver Safety instructor.
