Now we're cooking with AARP

The words “social isolation” has taken on a whole new feeling… yes, I said feeling. Sure, we know it means to isolate yourself, but for many, it has taken on a feeling as well. Some of us are feeling anxious, sad, and uneasy. Many of us have turned those feelings into an opportunity to channel our inner Julia Child, Rachel Ray, Gordon Ramsey, Aaron Sanchez, or Eddie Huang.

These days most of us are cooking at home. Whether you’re making tortillas or bread from scratch, soup or a veggie omelet, we are all using our kitchens more than ever before. While many of us are not professional chefs, our desire to create something tasty with whatever is in our pantries has reached a new level.

Food can be more than just nutrition, it can also bring generations together. At AARP we love to see multi-generational projects flourish, which is why we want to see what you’re cooking with what you have in the pantry and refrigerator. So we're asking that next time you head to the kitchen with your grandchild, child, parent, significant other or close friend in tow, take your phone with you and record your cooking process.

We want to see it all from start to finish with you narrating along the way. Once you're done email us your video to houston@aarp.org and let us share your experience with everyone. All we ask is that you keep it to about 3 minutes.

Once we get your video we will add music and identify you in the piece too. Don’t forget to tell us your name, where you are from and what you’re cooking on camera.

Here to kick off our “Now we’re cooking with AARP” series is Evelin De La Rosa and her mother, Maria. They made chicken flautas and vegetable soup using just the ingredients they had in their pantry and fridge.
