Turning to pets to combat isolation

Research has shown, again and again, that social isolation is a huge health risk for older adults and their caregivers.

People who are lonely or socially isolated are more likely to have a heart attack or stroke, develop type 2 diabetes, and experience cognitive decline. And they’re twice as likely to die prematurely.

AARP is partnering with Best Friends Animal Society to help combat isolation and help people adopt a pet too. AARP Prepare to Care Podcast Host Charlene James talked to Kerry McKeel with Best Friends Animal Society about the partnership and importance of pets to people.

If you're craving post-pandemic connection, then join us for a webinar series to learn how pets can help, featuring Houston cats and dogs to adopt with a discount code. There are two sessions you can attend.
