Did you know it's Walkability Week in Austin? Late last week, Mayor Lee Leffingwell proclaimed:

0000016b-01a0-dd13-abeb-61effd610000Be it know that Whereas, A walkable City, as envisioned by the Imagine Austin Plan, is important to all Austinites; and, Whereas, Older citizens rely on safe, walkable streets to remain independent and active; and, Whereas, Walkability is a key aspect of good transit; and, Whereas, Walkability isn’t just a downtown idea, it’s a citywide goal; Now, Therefore, I, Lee Leffingwell, Mayor of the City of Austin, Texas, do hereby proclaim January 20 – 26, 2013 as Walkability Week in Austin.

We believe that streets aren't just for drivers. They must serve everyone who uses them, including pedestrians, cyclists and motorists. If you're in Austin, join us tomorrow for a discussion about the future of Austin as an age-friendly, walkable Austin, in partnership with Mayor Leffingwell and the Mayor's Task Force on Aging.
