“After my mother had her first stroke, when her time in the rehab hospital was over, they just kicked her out and said you have to take her home today – and that was it.”
Are you interested in increasing support for family caregivers in Utah? Do you enjoy the theater? These two things may not seem like they go together, but combining your caregiving experiences with playwriting is a novel approach being taken by the College of Nursing at the University of Utah to document the effect of an arts-based activity on caregiver wellbeing.

Caregiving may be one of the most important roles a person takes on in his or her life, whether it is a sudden role or one that develops over time. Having resources to start to plan for this role, helping to coordinate a big move, or contemplating having a loved one move in will make the process much easier.
Utah Family Caregivers Provide $4.15 Billion
This press release was issued by AARP on June 4, 2015.
In connection with AARP’s I HEART CAREGIVERS initiative, you are invited to watch a free screening of STILL ALICE and learn more about resources for family caregivers and their loved ones. The film will be shown on Thursday, June 18 at 7:00 pm at the Megaplex at Valley Fair Mall in West Valley City. Following the film, Ronnie Daniel, Executive Director of the Alzheimer’s Association, Utah Chapter will be hosting a brief question and answer session. He will be joined by Jill Crowell, a woman living with early-stage Alzheimer’s disease, and who will also be answering pre-selected questions.
(Midvale, UT) AARP Utah today released finding from a statewide survey highlighting Utah caregiver experiences, challenges, and needs. Utah has a huge unpaid work force in the form of family caregivers—382,000 Utahns provide an estimated $4.2 billion in economic value to the state every year through their service. But this labor takes a toll.
Caregiving is an act of love and compassion, but it is also overwhelming and can cause caregiver burn-out. Salt Lake County Aging and Adult Services recognizes the need to provide resources for caregivers, and has many programs and materials to help ease the burdens faced through caregiving responsibilities.
